Can I Get a Physical Sample Before a Large Award Order?
Physical samples are not standard with every custom award order, but Flawless Awards can assess whether a custom prototype or a sample of an existing design makes sense for your project. Every order also follows a digital proof-first process before production.
A physical sample may be possible before a large order, but availability, price and timing must be confirmed for your project. A custom prototype is not standard and depends on the design, budget, quantity and required delivery date. If you mainly want to assess the material, weight or etching quality, a sample of an existing design may be available instead. In every case, Flawless provides a production-ready digital artwork proof for your written approval before production begins.
Choose the right type of sample
There are two physical sample options to discuss with an award specialist:
- Existing-design sample: This may help you assess the weight and clarity of optical crystal and see the quality of deep sand etching. It will not confirm the exact shape or artwork of a new custom design.
- Custom prototype: This may help you evaluate a unique design, but its availability, price and timing must be confirmed for the specific project.
If you need to check whether an unusual shape will stand securely or how a complex three-dimensional design will work in practice, an existing-design sample may not tell you enough.
Digital proofing confirms your artwork
Flawless uses a proof-first process. After reviewing your logo and personalization files, the artwork team prepares a production-ready digital proof showing the layout, logo placement and text.
Most initial artwork proofs are returned within 24–48 business hours after all required artwork information is received. The full proofing process has no fixed duration because it depends on file readiness, revisions and approval speed. Production cannot begin until you approve the final proof in writing. For more guidance, review what to check before approving an award proof.
Allow extra time for a custom prototype
Adding a physical prototype will significantly extend the overall schedule because the sample must be made overseas, shipped and cleared through customs. Before adding this step, your award specialist should review the required delivery date with you.
Standard custom production takes 60–90 days from final artwork approval, including ocean freight and customs. Rush custom production takes approximately 4–6 weeks using air freight when the event date requires it, the budget allows and the project is confirmed as feasible. Air freight is generally quoted separately, and every project timeline is confirmed in writing at the time of order.
Quality checks continue during production
A sample is not the only quality-control measure. Trained specialists at the overseas production facility inspect customer awards for flaws before they are packaged and shipped. When they arrive, every polished optical crystal award is also visually inspected for internal bubbles, inclusions and waves, as well as minor exterior abrasions or chips on the beveling.
Flawless manages the full process, including design, proofing, production oversight, freight, customs brokerage and delivery. You work directly with Flawless rather than the production facility.
Plan for later additions too
For a custom award program, Flawless may recommend ordering a few extra pieces. Very small follow-up production runs can be harder to produce and may require expensive air freight to arrive before the event.
The right number of extra awards depends on the project. Availability and timing for later custom pieces cannot be guaranteed without reviewing the design and deadline.
Frequently asked questions
Is a physical sample included with every custom award order?
No. A physical sample is not included or required for every custom project. The availability, price and timing of a prototype must be evaluated for the specific design and schedule.
Can I see the exact custom award before full production?
Possibly, but an exact custom prototype requires project-specific confirmation. If approved, the additional sample phase will significantly extend the overall timeline.
Can I get an existing award sample to check the quality?
An existing-design sample may be available so you can assess physical qualities such as weight, optical crystal clarity and sand etching. Availability must be confirmed for your project.
How quickly will I receive a digital award proof?
Most initial artwork proofs are returned within 24–48 business hours after Flawless receives all required artwork information. That timing applies to the initial proof, not the complete proofing process.
When does the custom production timeline begin?
The production timeline begins after you give written approval of the final artwork proof, not when you first inquire or place the order. The project schedule is confirmed in writing at the time of order.
